Hosta 'Jetstream' is a seedling of an open-pollinated seedling of H. yingeri. It forms a neat symmetrical clump of dense, blue, heart-shaped leaves. A little direct morning sunlight is favored by this new introduction. (Beilstein 2013)

Did you know... Blue hostas are actually green hostas with a waxy covering on the leaves that gives them the wonderful blue color. The "blueness" of a blue hosta depends on the plant age, hosta variety and the location the blue hosta is planted or kept. Sunlight slowly melts the wax off the leaves turning them back to green, thus a shadier location will protect the blue color longer into the growing season. Blue hostas always re-emerge the next year with a new waxy coating, thus making them blue again. Young blue hostas often only develop the wax after a year or more of growing.
