SIDE-OATS GRAMA. Original member of the Native Tallgrass Prairie. Impervious to floods, fire and drought. Easy to grow from seed. Very hardy, down to -50F. Perennial with a long life span(10+yrs) Likes to form clumps about 1-2' around and will get 3+ feet tall. Not picky about soil, will grow just about anywhere with 6 hrs of sun. Has a grey/blueish hue in the summer and turns copper color in fall, giving some color to the winter landscape. Wildlife is attracted to sideoats gamma grass. There called sideoats because the seed pods(oats) only form on one side. They will produce small red flowers in mid-summer. Will spread through rhizomes and self seeding.
