It features somewhat heart-shaped leaves 2-6 inches in length, they emerge a reddish color turning dark green as summer approaches. These make a bold landscape statement with their irregular branching and graceful crown. The Red Bud grows at a medium rate with height increases of 12"" to 24"" per year, with a mature height of 20-30' and a spread of 25-35' at maturity. Grows in full sun and needs at least 6 hours of unfiltered sunlight per day. Prefers normal moisture but can tolerate drought in HUMID regions. Hardy in zones 4-9.
