Burgundy rubber plant (Ficus elastica “Burgundy”), a man-made cultivar, develops large leaves, 8 to 12 inches long and 4 inches wide, with a burgundy tint and a red midrib.the “Burgundy” rubber plant grows as a houseplant.
In its native environment, it’s normal for a rubber plant to grow to over 30′ tall. Don’t worry though — as a houseplant, rubber plants usually get to around 6-8′. With careful pruning, you can shape your rubber tree to be exactly as tall as you want.
Its sap is used to produce rubber, hence the name. The plants live for hundreds of years, but take 7 years to be harvested for the first time. After those 7 years, it will produce sap for rubber for about 30 years or so.beautiful and hardy houseplant
It’s been proven to remove formaldehyde from the air
Lighting:
Locate the “Burgundy” rubber plant in the brightest light available. Direct sunlight produces the darkest burgundy color on the leaves. This plant tolerates low indoor light, but the leaves fade to a light green color.
Temperature:
This plant adapts to normal indoor temperatures, but grows slower than normal. The ideal temperature for the best growth is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit at night with daytime temperatures of 80 degrees or more.
Watering:
This plant needs watering only when the soil becomes dry. Pour water into the top of the plant pot, and let it run out the bottom to soak the roots. Do not splash the leaves since this will cause stains. “Burgundy” rubber plants do not like waterlogged roots. During the winter, cut the watering schedule back to only every couple of weeks.
Dusting:
The large leaves of the “Burgundy” rubber plant tend to collect dust, so wipe them off with a moist soft cloth. If the leaves are stained, mix a tiny amount of liquid hand soap in the water to get rid of the stains. Leaf shine products available in garden centers are used to enhance the natural shine on the leaves.
Feeding:
Feed the “Burgundy” rubber plant every couple of months with water-soluble balanced fertilizer designed for houseplants. Plants located in medium light exposure do not grow as fast as plants in high light, so feed medium-light plants every four months.
Repotting:
Rubber plants grow fast and need larger containers every couple of years. A layer of stones on the bottom of the plant pot acts as extra weight so the plant will not tip over. Use a mixture of two parts peat moss, one part potting soil and one part sand in the container.

Plants around 20~25 inch height in 3 gallon pot.
