Set of 3 - River Birch Trees - Limited Supply
The trees are now dormant, leafless, and carefully lifted from the beds, handled well, and they will be packed as bare root. Order now and all the way through early-Spring. The supply of these trees is limited. Ships about 15+ inches... thin stem, but nice.
This is a Set of 3 trees. Why three? Some trees that have an ornamental appeal, like the birches, are often planted in groups of three. In the past, we sold them singly and in sets, but this season just as a set.
Popular for the white bark like the European White, but the River Birch has a shreddy bark that can be peeled off in small sheets. The European has a smooth white bark. The River is a good shade tree, or useful in windbreaks and barriers. Nice as a focal point in the landscape design, they are often planted in clumps of three, but singly or in lines works well also. Good for Plant Zones 4 to 9, most soils, and medium watering is generally fine. They grow best in full sun, but partial shading works as well. They can grow up to 30 feet, and vary from a narrow to broader shape depending on growing conditions.
This tree is 2 year olds, they were trimmed back last year, nice good roots although often not heavily netted fine roots, with the tree varying from 15+ inches tall. Good hardy plants checked before packing.

Waiting for Spring is too late... trees are best planted early-early. Tomatoes and peppers are Spring, trees and plants are best planted while dormant and cool conditions. Ponder this...

Generally plan on this:
If you live in the Southern half of the country, order starting November, and take delivery right away. Plant (or pot) the tree right away. You can plant as long as your ground is not frozen. Put a thick layer of mulch around it. Get planted by mid-April before the warmer weather arrives.
If you live in the Northern half of the country, order during the late Winter, and take delivery early. Pot up your tree and hold it in a dark, cool, moist location, that will get a minimal amount of light and some moisture, but cool enough to keep it dormant until you can plant it outdoors. Plant as soon as your ground thaws. After planting, put a thick layer of mulch around it.
Once you get your plants, open the box and put them in a bucket of water, and plant right away. If you can not plant right away, then pot the plants or/and hold the plants in a cool dark, moist location until they can be planted.
Always best to add a thick mulch layer. Having a thick layer of mulch helps to conserve soil moisture, keeps the weeds down, and helps recycle the nutrients. A thick mulch layer also moderates the soil temperatures, which then reduces the stress on the roots.
